/ Autumn
Basilisk Isle is in the season of Autumn. Farmers and Orchards owners are in the height of business and the animals are starting to wind down for Winter.
/ The Story
The Age of Shining has long passed since the Mage has hid and given up the land to Kings and Queens. Now the High King rules over Basilisk Isle and is ignoring the old ways. The land is dying as are his people and the High King cares not. Now we are entering into the 1st Year of the Fatal Century.
Now everyone is waiting for the legend to come true. Will the rightful High King sit on his throne and will the Age of Renewed Shining come?
That is a recent sketch I made of the main character of a comic I intend to start soon, and I was wondering if anyone had some ideas to help me out with the design.
To begin with the character will be heavily simplified in the actual comic, because as drawing that many lines in action can just be annoying, however for my comic I kinda need some help from people.
The plot is that a young demon(shown above) named Maliel is begining to question why things are the way they are. He wants to know why the angels hate the demons, and in reverse why the demons hate the angels. As such he enlists in a surprise assasination attempt that the demons have in the works, trying to kill the Arch Angels. He wants to be within the angels world, to see how things work.
Anyway the big issue is that I am not religious by any strech of the imagination, I don't really know much about these angels aside from what can be read on websites like wikipedia. so heres what I want to find out from the people here, in case anyone knows anything about christian dogma;
-What each angel or demon really represents(so that I can have an idea of how to sketch and stylize them.
-just for the record, I'm not going to be involving "god" or "satan" in the comic, instead the supposed leaders of each side will be represented by the two most major angels and demons I know. For the Angel's; Gabriel, and for the demons; Sammael
I also wanted to know if people had ideas as to people to new characters. While the old original demons and arch angels will be involved, it's going to be focusing mainly on a younger generation of good and evil. So I need Ideas or themes for new characters.
For example just because every angel and demon has it in their name, "el" at the name is must. It is hebrew for "of god", and considering all demons are fallen angels, they have it was well. However I have just been combining languages for names, Maliel for example is a fusion of the latin Malus, meaning evil, and "el" meaning "of god". His name means "evil of god". However most characters will be refered to by nicknames, Maliel will usually be called Malley.
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

Okay, here's what I got, from the book The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Mythology:
-The idea of angels arose in eastern Asia, possibly beginning in ancient Iran.
- The name "angel" comes from the Greek word for "messenger."
-Protective spirits of ancient Iranian mythology were portrayed as winged, humanlike creatures. At this time, they are not Christian at all. Judaism is still, as far as I can tell, in its early stages.
-Gabriel, according to tradition, sits on the left hand of Yahweh(God) and, in Hebrew texts, apparently guards the left side of humans as they sleep. At the end of time (Apocalypse?) he will battle with the Leviathan, the symbol of chaos. In Islam, he is Jibril, the angel of revelations.
-Solomon, son of David, was said to converse with creatures like "peri" and djinn. The six-sided star, known as Solomon's Seal, is a powerful talisman. (In an effort to create plot, there may be an original Seal which stores all of Solomon's power and has been lost for ages, only to resurface mysteriously. Or something.) It was rumored that Solomon controlled an army of djinn, who built Solomon's Temple.
-Djinn in pre-Islamic times were ugly and evil supernatural beings. They were fiery spirits of wild, desolate places and performed their malign powers under a cloak of invisibility or by changing their shape at will. The name "djinn" means "furious" or "possessed." In Islam, they are capable of redemption, because they are orignially men who refused to acknowledge Allah. (They may or may not be "demons" as you know them; they are fallen men instead of fallen angels.)
-Angels were created before men and opposed Allah's plan to populate the earth with human beings, arguing that humans would rebel against Allah. But when Allah created Adam, the first prophet, and taught him the names of all things, all the angels bowed down before Adam, except for Iblis, the devil, who believed that since he was made of fire, he was superior to beings made of earth.
-Jews, as far as I can tell, believe in angels. (The angel with the flaming sword at the entrance to the garden of Eden, Jacob wrestling with an angel, Mary, a devout Jew, being visited by an angel)
-Muhammad was not originally a Muslim. As far as I can tell, he wasn't even, at first, a monotheist. However, he traveled to Syria as a young man, met Christians, and Jews, and others who believed in one god, and became convinced that monotheism was correct. He retreated to cave on Mount Hira to wrestle with his beliefs alone. Jibril visited him there, and insisted that Muhammad should "recite" his beliefs; in other words, preach the truth about Allah, thus beginning Islam as we know it.
Not from the book:
Angels have been known* to couple with human women and produce offspring. *This is fiercely argued between various people of various religions. I do not know if the resulting children are human or angel or somewhere in between.
There may or may not be an object known as the Unholy Grail, which would be the cup from which Judas drank at the last supper. It would give immense power but also corrupt any who touch it.
