Caste Titles

While I wrote this Arrow, the Global Mod of the site, and Dalen, the Mod of BI, helped with a large portion of this as well. I give both of them full credit on the classes they did - and they knows which ones each helped out with. Dears, I couldn’t of finished this and subsequently the site without your help.

  • Peasants - This is the poor class out of all the castes. They wear rags or tattered, mix-matched clothing they’ve found. This caste is the largest out of all as well because of the High King’s nature. Many old royals in all the kingdoms have been put into this category because they’ve been stripped of their title, belongings, and wealth. Quite a few are angry because of this for they remember how they used to live. Few others are hiding in this class because of the death warrants hanging over their heads. Only one Royal ever wished to fall to this rank--the rightful High King, a boy of 17. This is also the most cultured and diverse caste of all, it has a bit of every Proper race that lives in all five kingdoms in Basilisk Isle.

  • Commoners - These people are the middle class of society, the working class. Many merchants, farmers, and all kinds of artisans work night and day to keep the High King happy.

  • Gypsy - This is a female that travels and tells a person’s fortune. Don’t confuse this with a Seer because Gypsies see the near future where as Seers can do more than that. They have slightly darker skin than most and rarely burn or tan. They seem to not age but the Gypsies have conquered an old secret of age, they age when they wish to. When they feel like they want the quite life as a old fortune teller they start to age, but they have other reasons to as well.

  • Contortionist/Circus - These mostly work in traveling circuses that amuse people in villages for money. They are flexible but they also make amazing Spies. They can conceal things on their person even if they wear tight clothing, never under estimate this caste. This class is mostly women as well but there have been a few men to train their bodies to move as if it had no bones. They are also quick and light footed so keep those money bags close.

  • Bard - This is the caste of poets and scholars, mostly men, they travel telling stories, gather information, and playing at the Courts around the Isle. Bards are revered and are treated with great respect and honor. Hosts will even give a Bard his bed because only few wish to travel in the dangerous times and lands that the High King as put them all in.

  • Singer - This is the partner to the bard and while the singer can be male and is, there are female singers as well.

  • Elemental Dancers/Benders - This class is different from the rest. It can control an Element, only one of the thirteen, without having to channel it through an object or weapon. They use their bodies and movement. (If you need to know more then PM me.)

  • Army Soldiers - The true backbone of any army. Soldiers are underrated, but necessary fighters of unwavering loyalty to the crown. Their numbers are many, but still they value quality over quantity (although quantity is rather important too) and can often be seen sparring with each other in military camps. Although they may come from many different backgrounds and cultures, questions are rarely asked and soldiers all trust those within their unit fiercely. There may be petty squabbles occasionally in the food lines and after too much drink, but the fiery spirit of these fighters is unwavering on the battlefield as they clash, fall, and walk away victorious.

  • Ranger/Archer - Combatants trained with the use of ranged weapons, i.e. a bow. Typically less resilient to pain, they have extraordinary eyesight and swift reflexes. Often used as scouts, they do not know the front line of battle and typically fight unseen, preferring guerrilla tactics or a hit-and-run attack rather than one-on-one combat on equal ground.

  • Guard - A division of uniquely-male warriors whose duty is to protect the royal family. Stronger and more resilient but a bit slower than their female counterpart, Guardians, Guards are the muscle and protection around the royal family. Problems they deal with are ones that cannot or do not need to be handled delicately- they are here-and-now soldiers, who take care of business quickly and completely and worry about tomorrow’s problems when they come along. Few Guards get the duty of being assigned to a prince of the royal court and quickly become their protector. Just like the Guardians’ that Princesses have, these men become really close to their charges.

  • Guardian - A class of all-female warriors charged to protecting the royalty of their kingdoms. In opposition to a Guard, a Guardian is typically faster and nimbler but less powerful than her male counterpart. The Guardians typically take on secret assignments, where the matter may be too delicate to deal with openly and a subtle solution is required. They are also the royal family’s body guards and protect them inside of the castle. These women also have a strong relationship with the King and Queen’s princesses, many become confidants and good friends of these royal girls.

  • Knight - Many a young boy has skulked away from his chores to rush to a window of high ledge to stare in awe as a gleaming figure riding a gallant steed passes by. Most eventually lose interest in such things as they grow older, but for a few, the dream has captured their heart and they leave home for a life of adventure… to become a Knight. Knights are perhaps the most well known of all fighters. The deeds they perform are legendary in their own right, and may gain the adoration, or chagrin of all those around them. It may vary in different lands, but generally Knights are warriors proficient in both swordplay and mounted combat. Although their skills seem great, that can only be achieved through years of practice and study, usually beginning at an early age. While most knights are noble and just beings who serve their nobility. Some have dissented, and rebelled against the milder ways of their companions. Such Knights are incredibly dangerous fellows who are feared throughout the land and can only be dispatched by a mighty foe who wishes to bring them to justice.

  • Spy - Sometimes considered the low-life of the society, spies are often hired by those who wish to play dirty such as rebellious gangs or small-time lords. Their skills include being very light on their feet, their ability to retain and recall information and the best know how to lie. Their loyalties lie in the highest bidder and their sense of self-preservation outweighs any friends they may somehow acquire. Unlike popular belief, however, spies are not paid to kill who they watch and have little to no knowledge in combat.

  • Samurai - A small number of powerfully trained figures whom all have a sense of frightening conviction. Trained in a fighting style known as Bushido, they are some of the greatest fighters alive, and the deadliest when holding a sword. Each Carries three swords. A long sword known as a No-Dachi for successive heavy hits, a Katana for swift slicing cuts. And The Tanto. That Tanto is weapon forged almost entirely out of a Samurai's desire to serve their master. No bigger than a Dagger it exists solely to kill the owner, in the event that he looses a fight.

  • Rogue - A muted thump in the night, a bump in the middle of a crowded street, or a gleaming blade sliding across your throat. They come in many forms, but all rogues have little respect for the rules they do what they want to get what they want and move around you if you get in their way. Rogues are masters of stealth and deception, from the lowly pickpocket to the deadly assassin. Their biggest strength is the uncanny ability to be unseen when they need be and escape from any bonds possible, either physically or verbally. While some choose to hone their invisibility more, other choose to increase their physical prowess and either become limber and snakelike gymnasts or brutal and intimidating thugs. But generally the rogue is not a melee fighter, they prefer to attack from a distance, or avoid combat altogether. Disappearing into the shadows without a trace

  • Ninja - Stealthy killers whom lurk in the shadows like vipers. They are not thieves, but rather gatherers and killers. Unless hired to take something they will not. They disprove the theory of no honor among thieves. Trained in the fighting style known as Ninjutsu, it has been rumored that they can kill with a single well placed punch. As they are also trained in throwing weapons like shuriken(bladed stars) and smoke bombs they are designed to steal information or objects with resounding success, or kill they targets as efficiently as possible.

  • Assassin - People often aspire to climb the social ladder in order to gain security, they think that if they’re important they will be safer from the horrors of the world. But as it may be, such people often attract attention, and if they draw attention, certain people may decide that measures must be taken. And that’s where Assassins come in, the darkest of all shadows, these fiends have no qualms about taking a life… as long as they are paid well for it. An assassin’s biggest strength is their stealth and patience. If they are hired to do a job, then they will not lessen their efforts in the slightest until it is done. Almost never do assassins confront their quarry directly, their tools are subtle, a small shake of powder into an evening drink, a dagger across a sleeping throat or a bolt from a crossbow far away. If an assassin is attacked, they usually flee if there is even the slightest chance they will lose. Capture would mean they can’t go after their target, and being unable to do their job means they won’t get paid. If you should ever invoke the wrath of an assassin, then you had best make peace with whatever god you worship, for as soon as they are able, the assassin’s next target will be you.

  • Pirate - Scourges of the Sea, Pirates are a band of terrifying people who strike fear into seafaring ships everywhere. Pirates my seem to be a lawless bunch, but they do have a set of regulations like all sailors. However theirs are notably more relaxed than any others. Pirates are notably fierce in combat, what they lack in official training, they make up for in numbers and the occasional dirty trick. However it could be said that everything a pirate does is dirty, considering that their entire line of work is stealing and then selling goods and slaves from ships that they attack.

  • Seer - A class of strong women that can use magic as they will. This is the cousin class to the Priestess and Cleric classes. A seer is one who can see glimpses of the future. Those with the gift may experience random sounds, emotions, or even glimpses into the future. The events rarely come in order, but with training some Seers may even aid armies by learning to concentrate on a specific event or time period. Warrior Seers require tougher training than any other class, going through rigorous preparation sessions to master their ability and learn fighting style. They may also learn to use Spirit, Energy, and Time. Seers can also attend a court as a protective precaution. Most of the time they work with a Court Mage to help guard the Royal Family - King, Queen, Prince, Princess.

  • Mage - A Seer‘s counterpart and the brother class to the Priest and Monk classes. A class of strictly males who practice sorcery. They are masters of manipulating the elements and are a valuable resource on the battlefield, highly sought after and often placed in positions of high rank for their services. Their training is brutal and the title not easily won, but those who make it are rewarded for their suffering.

  • Priest - This class is made up of males. The spiritual guides for the people. Unfamiliar to war, the fight only to protect those who need to be stood up for and rarely kill their opponents, using the elements earth, light and fire. They are firm with their rules of sanctuary, and a determined priest may even fight the guards to protect a criminal inside his church. They offer teachings on the religion of their kingdom, and are always one to give advice.

  • Priestess - This class of trained women work hard to become what they are passionate about. They start young in the Temple Complexes and work their way up to the point they wish to go. Many are a needed part of a court while others are the Warrior Priestess that fight in battles and wars and guard the kingdom’s border. Some women become Healers so that when a person is wounded the injured will recover quickly in their care. Healers also go into battle but never really see it, they just see the effects of it so the woman that becomes a Healer must be strong of will. Even more still become the historians of Lore, History, and Virtues. These women become teachers to the young maidens wishes to aspire to become a Priestess. They also work in the court to preserve the history of the Isle. Still, others become Tamers and masters of Magic. While all Priestesses learn the full extent of each aspect of their lives few wish to dig into the more powerful arts and Speaking. Many strange creatures are Priestesses familiars as the Tamers of the group help others gain one. Every Priestess must have a magical familiar to help them when the woman is wounded herself or to weak to go on. When a Priestess dies, so does the pet that has become one with their soul.

  • Cleric - This class is the counter caste of the Monks. Clerics tend to be easy tempered young women who see themselves as poise and noble. They dress in rich clothing just to kneel at the altar. Few choose to humble themselves and wear simple clothing. Each royal court has at least one High Cleric to help with the Princesses. These women help guide the women of the court to become poise and noble themselves while teaching the city that surrounds the castles.

  • Monk - Like wise, the Monks and High Monk in each kingdom and royal court help with the Princes and the people of the kingdom just like their feminine counterparts. While the Monks can help both men and women outside the castle, the High Monk of the court helps the Kings and Princes plus other noble males. These men wear dark purple or black to make them stand out and more mysterious like the mysteries that the study.

  • Healer - A man or woman trained specifically in the art of mending one’s wounds. Not one for battling, they lend their aid to the soldiers by quickly restoring them back to health, often saving their lives. Some healers even go out onto battlefields; they are generally high in rank and demand. It takes a great deal of energy and proper training to heal someone correctly, however; do it wrong, and the healer may dangerously botch the procedure.

  • Rider - These are the champions of the kingdoms or the riders of the army. They take on a familiar or being that bonds with the human’s soul willingly. The few creatures that will do this is the Phoenix, Dragon, Unicorn, Pegasus, Drake, and Griffin. Some even have large Tigers, Bears, and other animals that are a rare oddity on the Isle yet not uncommon. They guard the border into/out of each kingdom as well as guarding the royal family. In the court this is the one person that is able to speak as equals to the King and Queen. As everything is there is always a female Rider and a male Rider to guard the respective person.

  • Wizard - This is one of the few “evil” classes. These men tap into arcane arts that are considered dark and deadly. The last time magic like this was cast was when the founding race lived on the Isle and that hasn’t been for centuries. If found in the company of a wizard or witch you are considered to be evil yourself and will be shunned. Only rarely do people mess with this class and its counterpart.

  • Witch - The magical equal to a wizard and thus just as powerful. They manipulate the Life Lines or magic lines and altars of the Isle and use the power drawn from it for terrible acts of magic that are considered immoral.

  • Demon - An overlooked class in the society, demons are creatures of darkness and shadow. Using their minor manipulation over these elements has earned them a reputation for being evil, a record they don’t seem to mind but have rather embraced. Treated much like filth it is not uncommon nor illegal to use Demons for slavery.

  • Royalty - This includes the whole court of each King and Queen. They are the Ladies, Lords, Duchesses, Dukes, Princes, Princesses, Barons, Baronesses, Earls, Countesses, Marquesses(male), Marchioness(female), Viscounts(male), and Viscountesses(female). These are the people that rule the Isle. They all live under the High King’s rule, many are on his side while few oppose him in secret to keep their lives whole.
